Jakob is currently qualifying as German and as European patent attorney as well as European trademark and design attorney with MERH-IP.

Jakob received his diploma in aeronautics and aerospace engineering (Dipl.-Ing. Univ.) from Technische Universität München (TUM), in 2006. During his studies he focused on thermo-fluid dynamics as well as flow and flight physics. Before his time at TUM, Jakob conducted a half-year internship with MTU Aero Engines Munich testing jet engines. Directly after having received his diploma, Jakob started to work at the institute of flight system dynamics of TUM where he stayed until 2015. During that time span he was awarded a doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) with the grade summa cum laude for his work on the optimization of periodic flight trajectories.

While working at the institute, Jakob established the optimization and optimal control group there as well as a Munich Aerospace Research Group in cooperation with the chair for mathematical engineering of the university of armed forces and the Bauhaus Luftfahrt. His work always aimed at real world flying systems. Already during his very first project at the institute, he determined the optimal flight trajectory of unlimited endurance for a manned solar aircraft circling the world which was closely related to the mission of the Solar Impulse fulfilled in 2016. Jakob also conducted industry commissioned projects: in cooperation with IABG, trim and Performance assessment routines were determined for the Airbus A400M. Moreover, in cooperation with Boeing, noise and fuel minimal approaches were determined, and for the Red Bull Airraces a high-fidelity simulation environment was established. Thereby, the time minimal flight trajectory with the corresponding controls can be calculated also enabling precise judging of security aspects of air races as well as the evaluation of fairness of the layout of the racetrack for the different types of aircraft participating.
