Timo Schwamb

Timo Schwamb is German patent attorney and qualified as representative before the European Patent Office (EPO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

Timo joined MERH-IP in 2009, where he became an equity partner in 2016. His activities are focused on drafting and prosecuting German and European patent applications in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering and he regularly advices and represents clients in trademark and design matters. With regard to patent matters, his practice includes electrical and mechanical engineering, often in connection with the special topic of computer-implemented inventions. Furthermore, Timo advises and represents clients in contentious matters with a special focus on patent opposition proceedings.

Timo has profound technical understanding, which is based upon university education, research and industry. Timo holds a degree in aeronautics and space technology from the Technical University of Munich. During his studies he acquired comprehensive knowledge in the field of applied physics, especially fluid and thermodynamics and participated in various scientific projects, such as research of solid-oxide fuel cells, development of the control of solar-powered desalination plants and development and programming of emergency algorithms for unmanned spacecraft.

His technical understanding also includes knowledge about various programming languages, including C and Python, as well as various simulation products from, e.g., Ansys, AutoCAD and MATLAB. Timo has also earned certificates in Python programming by successfully completing various courses of study offered by GTx, an online learning initiative of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Having worked for Airbus S.A.S. in Toulouse in the A380 airplane project, Timo conducted research in the field of micro- and nanotechnology at the ETH Zurich (ETHZ) University for which he was awarded a doctorate. During this time, he has also acquired extensive practical knowledge in the manufacture of micro- and nanosystems.

Before joining MERH-IP, Timo worked as a senior scientist at the Laboratory of Thermodynamics in Emerging Technologies conducting research in the field of nano particle fluids and the fabrication of thermally driven electro-mechanical print heads. He also lectured on thermodynamics and energy conversion in micro and nanotechnology.

Beyond the technical scope, Timo has also earned a degree as tea sommelier.
