Anna-Luise Devos

Patent professional

Anna-Luise Devos is a patent engineer and is currently undergoing her training to become a European patent attorney at MERH-IP.

Ms. Devos completed her studies in Mechanical Engineering as a Diplom-Ingenieur and subsequently obtained a Master of Science in Design & Innovation at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), both conducted in English.

Her focus was on the development of innovative products, particularly inspired by bionic principles. Already during her bachelor’s thesis, she collaborated with the Alfred-Wegener-Institute Helmholtz Centre, Premium Aerotec, and MAN Bus & Truck to develop and optimize a bionic lightweight structure for buses.

During and after her studies, Ms. Devos was involved in various practical activities and gained initial experience in patent analysis at the innovation consultancy CREAX in Belgium.

Her master’s thesis was carried out in cooperation with the Danish Olympic rowing team and focused on the bionic design and suitable material selection of rowing handles. The success of the project enabled her and her colleague to continue it as a spin-off research project with 500,000 DKK DTU Proof-of-Concept funding and a 150,000 DKK Discovery Grant. In parallel, she participated in the European Venture Programme and achieved second place in the final pitching round. In the course of this work, a patent for the rowing handles was filed.

During her work as a research assistant at DTU, she contributed to two scientific publications (“Paradigms for Biologically Inspired Design” (2018) with T. A. Lenau, Anna-Luise Metze, and T. Hesselberg; “Designing Plastics Circulation – Electrical and Electronic Products” (2019) with A. Raudaskoski, T. Lenau, T. Jokinen, A. Velander Gisslén, and A.-L. Metze).

Ms. Devos is fluent in German and English and has knowledge of French and Danish.
